Apprenticed in Mirecourt, then employed in Paris at various ateliers. Established his own business in Mirecourt which was quickly very successful. Awards gained in Paris 1839, 1849 and 1855, and London 1851. Very prolific maker, especially after c.1844, following Stradivari and (rarely) Amati models. Many sold through J. B. Vuillaume who inserted his own label. Made several instruments passed off as the work of Gaspar Duiffoprugcar in the wake of misguided attempts to show that this maker, and not Andrea Amati, was the originator of the violin in Lyons in the early 16th century. Very fine professional work in the – from John Dilworth<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n
Bevor er sich in Mirecourt als Fabrikant selbstst\u00e4ndig machte, arbeitete er einige Jahre in Paris bei verschiedenen Meistern.
