A beautiful French silver mounted<\/strong> violin bow by Prosper Colas – made around 1890, <\/p>\n

stamped on the stick and certified by J.F. Raffin in Paris.<\/p>\n

However, these\u00a0silver mounted<\/strong> violin bow by Prosper Colas are quite rare, and are always from a superior quality.<\/p>\n

Prosper Colas (1842 – 1919) was trained in Mirecourt and worked for J.B. Vuillaume in Paris.<\/p>\n

Beautiful medium brown pernambuco stick, round shaped. <\/p>\n

A beautiful elegant shaped head.<\/p>\n

All parts original. Normal estimated selling value circa 13.000 usd.<\/p>\n

The length of the stick is around 72,7 cm (4\/4 size), and the perfect weight of the bow is ca. 60 g.<\/p>\n

Fran\u00e7ois “Prosper” Colas<\/strong>\u00a0(1842\u20131919) was a\u00a0French\u00a0archetier\u00a0\/\u00a0bow maker\u00a0based in\u00a0Mirecourt, France.<\/p>\n

Born in\u00a0Goincourt\u00a0(Meurthe et Moselle) in 1842, he apprenticed locally, and was influenced by the late\u00a0Dominique Peccatte\u00a0school (in his early period). Prosper Colas’s work is similar to that of\u00a0Fran\u00e7ois Bazin,\u00a0Charles Claude Husson, and Pierre Cuniot. Around 1871, he came to Paris where he likely met\u00a0Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume\u00a0and worked for him. The first bows bearing his brand can be dated to this period and reflect Vuillaume’s influence (with the “Vuillaume style frogs”).\u00a0Prosper Colas worked for a varied number of makers and produced a huge quantity of bows. His best production was from the turn of the century (early 20th century). His lower tier production is stamped \u201cP.C.\u201d.
